In the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) population, the occurrence of sensory processing issues is much higher than in typical children. According to surveys, 95% of 281 children with autism exhibit some degree of sensory processing dysfunction. ASD presents challenges in social interaction, communication, sensory perception, emotions, and focus.
Approximately 42–88% of children with ASD may experience sensory processing disorders, leading to the use of self-stimulation to compensate for sensory input deficiencies or to avoid overstimulation. This can result in an inability to detect environmental cues, thereby interfering with children's participation in activities and skill acquisition. Due to insufficient sensory integration abilities, children often struggle with proper responses in proprioception, leading to difficulties in balance and posture control.
To address these challenges, we have designed the Ripple-Rocking Horse Kit.
Ripple is a sensory tool designed to help children with ASD improve sensory integration dysfunction. It can take on various forms and be used for a variety of training purposes.
Training Methods
1. Meandering pathway
Disassemble the balance board to transform it into an S-shaped balance beam, stepping stones, and two obstacle bars. This provides diverse training for a child's proprioception and motor skills. The gameplay is versatile, allowing children to move forward or backward using various methods such as crawling, walking, sideways movement, jumping, etc.
2. Balance board
A balance board that allows children to stand or sit and rock, providing vestibular training. The surface features various raised textures to stimulate tactile sensation for the child. The two ends have handles of different heights, with a cylindrical grip underneath, offering four height options for children of different heights.
4. Sensory platform
The surface of the sensory platform consists of numerous tactile rods that depress with weight and rebound when the force is removed, stimulating the child's sense of touch. Additionally, it can connect to a mobile app to control the brightness and patterns of the light strips, such as syncing with music for a flashing effect. This provides clear visual, tactile, and auditory feedback.
